As compute performance accelerates, data movement via existing optical interconnects are becoming the limiting factor. Today’s silicon photonics solutions are approaching fundamental limits in lane speed, power, and integration. Industry roadmaps call for 400G/lane by 2027, a speed that today’s conventional modulators can’t reach.
Polaris addresses this bottleneck with a manufacturable, supply-chain-compatible technology that enables >400G per lane optics without exotic materials or new fabrication infrastructure.
Why Polaris, Why Now
Polaris’ FenGlass platform is designed to deliver very high bandwidth density while reducing the power and complexity associated with next-generation optical connectivity, with a path toward integration into the broader silicon photonics ecosystem. As AI infrastructure moves toward 800G, 1.6T and beyond, we believe modulator technologies like Polaris’ will be necessary for the next generations of optical interconnects, a market that LightCounting expects to reach ~$40bn+ by 2030.
What particularly stood out to us was the combination of a differentiated technology platform and a market that is being pulled forward by an extremely powerful secular trend. The question is no longer whether AI infrastructure will need more optical connectivity, it is how quickly we can improve optical interconnects and lane speed to eliminate the data movement bottleneck in AI infrastructure.
